Violet Niamh Moran

Hello! I’m Niamh, a mould maker and makeup artist from north Wales.

Having grown up in a rural community, creativity and imagination were at the forefront of my upbringing. I spent my childhood playing in the woods telling tales of faeries and the fantastical. If I wasn’t running through the mud you could find me tinkering and making in my dad’s workshop, fixing up small lights or crafting simple woodworks. I have this desire to understand the workings of things, which lead me into pursuing product design and art at A-level, and subsequently prosthetics and mould making.

I studied Makeup for media and performance at the Arts University Bournemouth, graduating in 2023. Throughout that time I had many opportunities to explore the different avenues of hair and makeup artistry. I worked on many different projects both within my university course and through networking with other students. My final project at university focused on the area I grew up in and the mythology surrounding it, this 32 piece application solidified my love for prosthetics and mould making.

Since graduating I’ve worked on short films and local theatre productions before finding a career in medical simulation. Starting out I worked on military bases creating injuries for medical training days. This then lead me into workshop based work for a larger company, I worked my way from silicone runner to R&D technician within my first year and seized the opportunity to learn new techniques and work with new materials. I spent my time designing new products, problem solving, sustaining and creating replacement moulds, often moulding large and intricate pieces. Alongside fibreglassing moulds I spent a lot of my time 3D printing and woodworking in the workshop. Although I really enjoyed this position and learnt and improved many new skills, I’m now keen to pursue new and creative opportunities.

Many of my works are available to see in my portfolio, some projects are restricted due to confidentiality agreements. However, please feel free to contact me about any of my work or ask any questions.
